IG ปู - ไปรยา ลุนด์เบิร์ก | Yesterday I visited the Intergrated Assistance Centre in Maicao. It is the first of its kind in Colombia. It provides urgent humanitarian and protection needs to the most vulnerable people fleeing from Venezuela. I had the chance to meet Marie and Ismael. Marie left Venezuela because she had lost everything. The food and medicine shortage left her no choice during pregnancy but to leave. During her journey, she got an infection which caused her child to be born with severe disabilities. They have been sleeping on the streets on Maicao. Everyday they are waiting for food from strangers and at night Marie fears for their life and safety. During nights that it rains, she is awake cold on the streets holding her son keeping him safe. She is now in the centre with shelter, food and water and her son receives medical assistance however this is only a short term solution and her future still remains unsafe. I have never seen so much strength, kindness and compassion in someone who has endured so much. After we spoke, she asked me if ismael can show us his happy dance. He loves to dance. As he was dancing, ismael couldn’t stop smiling. I wish that moment could last forever. They deserve safety, protection and happiness. We need funding to help many vulnerable families like Marie and Ismael.
